Snoop’s “2-3 Zone” – 8/3/20

Back to the NBA grind for another week! Yesterday seemed to be very chalky, so hopefully you followed the field to the money!

I like what DraftKings did today. They omitted the Toronto and Miami game that started at 12:30 CT and decided to start the slate at 3:00 CT to give us a little more time to digest the slate. Still a solid five game slate with a few solid teams we can target.

Our friends from Washington are back on the slate along with the new and improved Memphis team who has been one of my favorite teams to watch. The Grizzlies and Pelicans are by far the highest projected game total on the slate at 237, 9.5 more than any other game.

Top of the Key

Joel Embiid ($10,300 DK / $9,700 FD) vs. San Antonio Spurs

Embiid ate in his first game against Indiana. Not really a surprise since he has dominated them in the past.

In 34 minutes, the 76ers center posted a 41 point, 21-rebound line with four assists and three blocks. These type of numbers might not be feasible to repeat, but if he gets the same amount of run a 35 point, 15-rebound game is not out of the cards against the Spurs.

It looked as if Philladelphia ran a lot of the offense through Embiid against Indiana, as his last five games usage has shown. Going back to before the shutdown over that time period his usage rate sits at a robust 38.5%

Ja Morant ($7,300 DK / $7,500 FD) at New Orleans Pelicans

Morant has been nothing short of spectacular during his rookie season and looks even better during the restart. This is not the Memphis team of year’s past as they are playing at an insanely high pace.

In the first two games in Orlando, Morant has two key stats that catch my eye. He is averaging 20 field goal attempts and 10 assists during those games. That is a huge percent of scoring opportunities to be involved in.

This matchup is the highest paced game by quite a bit tonight and Memphis’ 116 team implied total has me liking Morant even more in what could be a shootout in the bubble.

Baseline Looks

Here are a few players and situations I will be keeping my eye that could be in good spots depending on how news breaks or players I will look into a little throughout the day.

TJ McConnel ($4,500 DK / $4,200 FD) at Washington Wizards – Malcom Brogdon is still listed as questionable and if he is a no-go again tonight, McConnel could be the salary saving option we are looking for against Washington. The Holiday brothers could also be an option here as they each seen 30-plus minutes last game.

Brandon Clarke ($4,200 DK / $5,000 FD) at New Orleans Pelicans – He was a little disappointing against the Spurs, but the price is still good for the Memphis big man. I can see a drop in ownership after he let people down yesterday. Grayson Allen could also be an option for Memphis as he played 28 minutes yesterday.

Dion Waiters ($3,200 DK / $3,800 FD) at Utah Jazz – There is always the possibility that LeBron James or Anthony Davis sit out one of these games but since it is the last game we will not likely know if that will happen. Waiters has seen 21 and 22 minutes in the two games since the restart so he might be worth a look in either a later slate or showdown lineup. We also know he likes to shoot as he has put up 21 shots in 43 mininutes.
