Tuesdays have no personality. Monday is the day everyone dreads, Wednesday is Hump Day, and Thursday is the Gateway to the weekend. What’s not boring about Tuesday is the eight game NHL slate we get to dissect. Lock comes at the usual time of 6pm CST, so make sure your lineups are entered before then.
Also, please be sure to check services like Left Wing Lock or Daily Face Off to verify there have been no last minute line shuffling or goalie changes. This article will discuss the one offs you can plug into your lineups to compliment your stacks or with which to start your cash games. Also, our members will be discussing the slate, lineup construction and everything else NHL DFS related in our Discord, so do yourself a favor and find your way to our premium membership page and get signed up so you won’t miss out on the edge our membership provides!
Mark Schiefele (WPG) vs VAN
Vancouver’s lackluster defense should be on full display as they take on the Jets this evening. When deciding on which Jets player to mention in this spot, instead of going with one of their power wingers (Ehlers, Connor) or a bottom six sleeper (Appleton), I landed on the rock solid production of top line center Mark Schiefele, and you should too.
James Van Riemsdyk (PHI) vs PIT
Pittsburgh’s defense has left much to be desired this season. I think the Pens brass got so overconfident in having their top two lines centered by Crosby and Malkin that they would up running in circles when they could no longer go goal for goal with an opponent and expect to come out on top more often than not. Tonight the lucky recipient of the loss of Pittsburgh’s defensive identity could easily be JVR. The veteran winger has shined brightly as a member of PHI1, and that trend continues here.
THE FIVE HOLE
Here are some players that might not be household names and/or who might fly under the radar, but that are in great spots tonight. In short, these are some less well known one offs that will save you some salary in cash games and bolster your GPP stacks.
Drake Batherson (OTT) vs MON
Batherson has quietly put up a solid season to this point. In the 23 games he has appeared in for the Senators, he has garnered 15 points, including seven goals and eight assists. In fact, over his last five games, Batherson has exploded for eight points. For their part, the Habs have been generously allowing goals recently. In their last five games, they are averaging 4.25 goals allowed per game and at only $4,400 on DK, Batherson makes for a killer cash play
Jean-Gabriel Pageau (NYI) vs NJD
The Devils are absolutely horrible when down s man. In fact, their penalty killing rate of 62.7% is almost nine full percentage points WORSE than the next worst team. Aside from their penalty killing line being brutally bad, they are almost equally as terrible in terms of their five on five defense. Not only do they allow a ton of shots per game, they also allowing a TON of high danger scoring chances per game. Playing on NYI3, Pageau is quietly having himself a season. He’s put up 13 points in the Isles 21 games, including 9 goals. More recently, he’s gone for three points in his last four games. He has good upside at what will be single digit ownership.
