How cold is it in Houston, TX? High of 31, low of 15. They canceled school four days in advance, and everyone bought out the grocery stores like that scene from World War Z. However, since hockey is played on ice, it won’t affect us. Rosters lock 6:00 pm CST, so make sure your lineups are set by then. Also, please be sure to check services like Left Wing Lock or Daily Face Off to verify there have been no last minute line shuffling or goalie changes.
This article will discuss the one offs you can plug into your lineups to compliment your stacks or with which to start your cash games. Also, our members will be discussing the slate, lineup construction and everything else NHL DFS related in our Discord, so do yourself a favor and find your way to our premium membership page and get signed up so you won’t miss out on the edge our membership provides!
TOP SHELF
Jack Eichel (BUF) vs FLA
It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Sabres on the docket, and for the most part, the jury is still out on the Jack Eichel/Taylor Hall experiment. One aspect of that experiment we can be sure about is Eichel’s production. In the ten games Eichel has appeared in, he’s notched 11 points (2 G, 9 A). With the other big names on the slate, Eichel’s ownership should be down somewhat, and that makes for a great GPP one off.
Mitch Marner (TOR) vs OTT
The Leafs get the privilege of beating up on the Senators tonight, and this one could get ugly fast. Examining the Toronto roster, Matthews, Tavares, Nylander, Rielly or any number of Leafs skaters could’ve been listed here. However, by skating on TOR1 Marner gets the good fortune of having opposing defenses putting the majority of their focus on Auston Matthews, and that allows Marner to wreak havoc.
Nikolaj Ehlers (WPG) vs EDM
Ehlers and Copp have thrived since moving up to skate on WPG1 with Adam Schiefele. Despite the success Ehlers has had this season, his price is still well below that of others with whom he shares similar stat lines. Edmonton’s defense is spotty at best, especially when Mikko Koskinen is between the pipes. Look for big things from Ehlers tonight.
THE FIVE HOLE
Here are some players that might not be household names and who might fly under the radar that are in great spots. They are some less well known one offs that will save you some salary and bolster your stacks.
Pius Suter (CHI) vs DET
Playing between Alex Debrincat and Patrick Kane gives you instant DFS street cred. I mean come on, you could let a blind man enter these two and he could probably finish in the top 10 of many offensive stats. Ok, that’s an exaggeration, but I digress. The Red Wings are allowing 3.19 goals per game, and the majority of the scoring Chicago does comes from CHI1. Pius’ salary is still extremely low for his upside, and I want to take advantage before it rises.
Nino Niederreiter (CAR) vs CBJ
While the addition of Patrick Laine has yielded great initial returns for the Blue Jackets offense, it seems to have done very little to shore up their defensive gaps. The fact of the matter is that Joonas Koripalso is off to a brutal start, and I see Carolina going off here. Trocheck and Niederreiter have developed amazing chemistry and I look for that to manifest itself in the form of points for Niederreiter.

Coupling various research techniques with the discipline learned earning a JD from Baylor University School of Law, he was able to grind his way up to some entries in the 2017 Draft Kings Spin-O-Rama where he scored a six figure payday. From there he never looked back, and has racked up multiple five figure wins in NHL, MLB and Soccer, and countless four figure paydays in everything from MMA to eSports.
On a personal note, he spent 14 years as an Assistant District Attorney, but now spends his day hanging out with his family, watching his son play baseball and writing NHL and MLB content for DFSHQ.
