Hopefully we won’t have a case of the Mondays as we attack the first slate of the week. While there are a couple of games earlier in the day, I plan on focusing on the eight game main slate that starts at the usual time of 6:00 pm CST. Therefore, make sure your lineups are set by then.
Also, please be sure to check services like Left Wing Lock or Daily Face Off to verify there has been no last minute line shuffling going on. This article will discuss the one offs you can plug into your lineups to compliant your stacks and ensure your lineup finishes in the green.
Our members will be discussing the slate, lineup construction and everything else NHL DFS related in our Discord, so do yourself a favor and find your way to our premium membership page and get signed up so you won’t miss out on the edge our membership provides!
TOP SHELF
Kyle Connor (WPG) at TOR
I love this play tonight. I went back and forth between Connor and Patrick Laine, but Connor seems to be skating better to start this season. He just always ends up in the right place, at the right time to put pucks on net.
Auston Matthews (TOR) at WPG
Matthews has been as hot as goat in a pepper patch (credit jdeeness for that quote). The Jets defense and Connor Hellebuyk aren’t easy marks, but when you’re hot, you’re hot. Might as well surf that Matthews wave until it hits the shore.
Connor McDavid (EDM) vs MTL
So here we go: let’s play the game of “Can we get McDavid right?” Usually it’s a toss up between playing him or Draisaitl, and most of the time we get it backwards. Well, that stops here. The Habs play solid defense, but McJesus has already notched five points and a whopping. 16 shots on goal in only three games. He’s pricey, but worth every nickel in my opinion.
THE FIVE HOLE
Here are some players that might not be household names and who might fly under the radar that are in great spots. Here are some less well known one offs that will save you some salary and bolster your stacks.
Kevin Hayes (PHI) at BUF
With Couturier sitting this one out due to injury, the Flyers move Kevin Hayes up to center PHI1. Since coming over from the Rangers last season, Hayes has thrived in his role in the middle of PHI2. I think playing between Claude Giroux and the scorching hot Joel Farabee will do nothing but elevate his game and give him multiple opportunities to torch the Sabres defense.
Kevin Fiala (MIN) vs ANH
The Ducks defense and John Gibson have been in a slow decline for quite some time. While I think just about anyone in the Wilds top 6 is in play today, I think it’s a Fiala type of night. Specifically, he’s fast, quick on his feet and is equally good at dishing out helpers and dropping goals. Kaprizov has been the shiny new toy everyone wants to play with, but I really like Fiala here.

Coupling various research techniques with the discipline learned earning a JD from Baylor University School of Law, he was able to grind his way up to some entries in the 2017 Draft Kings Spin-O-Rama where he scored a six figure payday. From there he never looked back, and has racked up multiple five figure wins in NHL, MLB and Soccer, and countless four figure paydays in everything from MMA to eSports.
On a personal note, he spent 14 years as an Assistant District Attorney, but now spends his day hanging out with his family, watching his son play baseball and writing NHL and MLB content for DFSHQ.
