We have a nice nine game main slate for a Wednesday getaway day but there are a few game with weather concerns in Baltimore, Philadelphia and Boston. Hopefully we don’t have anyone like Glenn Sparkman blowing up the slate tonight with a 10x game. Yikes!
With Frank away gallivanting with the kids at the movies today, let’s take a look at a few pitchers that I will be using in some of my contests tonight.
Mike Clevinger ($9,900 DK/$9,400 FD) vs. Detroit Tigers
After two rough starts coming off the injured list, Clevinger has went back to his dominating ways his last two times out. In his past two outings, he has tossed 11 innings allowed one earned run while striking out 15 highlighted by a 33 point DK point performance two starts ago.
Now he gets a matchup with Detroit who comes in with a 23% strikeout rate against right handers. This bodes well for the Indians hurler as he has a 14 K/9 ratio this year with a swinging strike percentage at 16.4. He also carries a 1.05 WIHP over his past 20 starts, which leave plenty of upside on both sites tonight.
Felix Pena ($6,700 DK/$6,900 FD)
There is not much in the low priced range today, so I think I will be throwing a few darts at Pena. He faces an Astros lineup which I usually don’t care to target, especially when they have a shutdown guy like Gerrit Cole on the mound. Some of his recent form has me looking into him more, however.
Pena has been steady this year as he has been good for a solid 11-17 DK points in most of his outings. He faced the Astros back on July 5 and picked up the win in four innings of work. He only threw 61 pitches in that contest, but has been sitting around 80 in his last five outings.
Houston has been hit and miss as of lately but if they roll out a right handed heavy lineup, Pena has been good against that split with a .226 WOBA against them this year. In his last 11 innings pitched he has limited his walks, three, while picking up a strikeout per inning.
