Another week of kick returners essentially being the offense in the CFL. Thankfully, the BC/HAM game kind of saved the day, but wow, the CFL has been awful from a watchability perspective over the last few weeks. What started out as a really good season has fallen off a cliff. I do think we will start to return to some normalcy, though.
Only considering three guys this week – Vernon Adams (if he plays), McLeod Bethel-Thompson and Dane Evans. Bo Levi and Matt Nichols are basically game managers who rarely pop for big fantasy weeks. There is some appeal to Mike Reilly as he seems to be coming around a bit, but the matchup is scary. Trevor Harris is perpetually in a good matchup and cannot manage to move the football over the white line.
Just play Andrew Harris. He might be hurt, though, as he has missed portions of practice. Thankfully, he plays tomorrow so we will know well in advance. Beyond him, some teams are getting healthy (CGY/OTT) so we could see more question marks to who will be starters and if there will be further time shares. William Stanback appears to still be dealing with an injury, so we could get another week of Jeremiah Johnson who is over the $6k mark now on DraftKings. Our cheapest option this week is Cameron Marshall who just does not inspire much confidence from me.
Brandon Banks is the man. He is an every week play. Bryan Burnham finally had his smash game last week and I would continue to roll the dice there. If Bo Levi comes back this week, I would have a much higher interest in Eric Rogers and to a lesser extent Reggie Begelton. With BJ Cunningham on the 6 game IR, Quan Bray and the returning DeVier Posey have some intrigue for me. Posey specifically is pretty reasonably priced. Araujo-Lopes saw some work last week, but is now priced higher than I think he should be, but if Ottawa continues to try to work the short and intermediate routes, he is a guy who could see a handful of receptions a game and we are playing a sport where one defender slipping takes a 10 point fantasy performance to 20+.
The BlueBombers are in better position this week against BC at home, but I do think this BC team might be getting ready to turn the corner and be competitive. Edmonton has a good matchup against Toronto, but we’ve seen them surprise on occassion as well. Ottawa has been bad, but they are at home, which does reduce some of the appeal of the Hamilton defence to me. I will probably have the most exposure to the lowest priced of the top tier with Calgary in a home matchup against a confused Alouettes team, though if Big Play VA gets the start, I would probably pivot my exposure a bit.
